The Passes of Spiti
Trek Program : 22 Nights / 23 Days
Day 1: A
rrival
in Delhi, on arrival meet and transfer to Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel.Day 2: Train to Chandigarh, jeep to Pinjore, on arrival check in at Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 3: Jeep to Manali, on arrival check in at Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 4: Day at leisure in Manali. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 5: Travel by jeep over 3978 metre Rohtang pass, gateway to Lahaul, to camp at Chotta Dara.
Day 6: Continue by jeep over 4358 metre Kunzam La into the Spiti valley and the village of Kiato.
Day 7: Trek from Kiato to the grazing pastures above the village.
Day 8: Takling La base camp.
Day 9: Day free for acclimatization.
Day 10: Over Takling La (5272 metres) to Lhasalna.
Day 11: C
ontinue
down valley to the Pare Chu (river), cross it and camp at Tarang Yogma. Day 12: Extra day to explore the remarkable valley of the Pare Chu.
Day 13: Follow the Pare Chu upstream to Kharsa Gongma, near the base of Parang La.
Day 14: Make an early start to go up the Parang glacier and cross the 5577 metre Parang La to Pangrochen. Only a small spring sustains life at this high, rocky campsite.
Day 15: Descend to the gorge of the Parilungbi (river), then ascend to a lovely grazing meadow.
Day 16: Finish the trek with a short walk out to the village of Kibber, famed as the world's highest village with electricity and daily bus service.
Day 17: Travel by jeep to Kyi Gompa, the largest in Spiti, and Dhankar fort, the former capitol of Spiti, high above the confluence of the Pin and Spiti rivers. Camp in the valley below Dhankar.
Day 18: Continue by jeep to Tabo Gompa, one of the greatest artistic treasures in the Himalayan region, to view its paintings and sculptures, some of which are over 1000 years old. We then cross into the district of Kinnaur, and camp at the village of Nako. Nako is also known for its ancient gompa, though it has been badly damaged in recent years.
Day 19: Travel
by jeep deeper into the Kinnaur area and camp at its former capitol of Kalpa.
Day 20: Continue by jeep to Shimla, the former summer capitol of India.
Day 21: After a full day in Shimla, we take the evening train to Kalka, then a jeep to Pinjore, where we return to our Palace Hotel.
Day 22: A short jeep ride to Chandigarh, then the Express train to Delhi, on arrival check in at Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 23: Depart-Delhi Transfer to airport for flight to onwards journey.
